Urban Ink: May 2013 - Britanie Girard
For far too long, urban tattoo artists have gone under appreciated and unrecognized. It wasn't until the 1990s that artists from inner-city communities were given recognition. The plight of the urban tattoo artist has been a continuous uphill battle and even though more and more artists of African-American, Latino, Asian, and many other ethnic backgrounds are being recognized by the predominantly white tattoo community there's still some way to go. Urban Ink magazine opened up its pages in 2007 to shed light on these unsung tattoo heroes, giving them a voice when no other tattoo magazine would. As an extension to the groundbreaking movement, Urban Ink proudly presents Ink&Hustle. Each ink-blasted issue will feature nothing but the best ink being slung by some of the sickest tattoo artists across the world. Feast your eyes on the works of world-famous artists like Jose Lopez and Sebastian Murphy (Ink Master), as well as dudes who have been putting out good work for years but have yet to reach the masses. Also featured inside this debut issue is an exclusive photo spread and interview with well-known urban tattoo model Britanie Girard who has dedicated over a decade of her life and almost her entire body to the art of tattoo.
